The Alliance at COP30
The 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place from November 10–21, 2025 in Belém, Brazil. The first COP to be held in the Amazon, COP30 will gather governments, civil society, researchers and community leaders to accelerate transformative climate solutions.
Background: joining the Global Mutirão
This milestone event comes at a critical moment for global climate action, following a year when temperatures first exceeded 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The choice of Brazil — and particularly Belém, at the gateway to the Amazon — as the host country, is deeply symbolic. The Amazon is one of the planet’s most vital ecosystems, whose health influences climate and planetary health globally. Yet, it is approaching a critical tipping point due to deforestation and climate change. Under Brazil’s presidency, COP30 will serve as a platform to connect climate, biodiversity and nutrition: three interdependent pillars of sustainable development. The Presidential Action Agenda places food systems transformation at its core, alongside forests and energy transitions, emphasizing land restoration, resilient agriculture and healthy, equitable diets for all. This year’s theme, “Global Mutirão”, is derived from a Tupi-Guarani phrase that signals collective commitments for a common good.
The Alliance’s contributions: evidence and scaling up innovation
In this unique context, the Alliance joins COP30’s efforts to scale up climate action by contributing evidence-based insights and actionable solutions at the intersection of climate, biodiversity and nutrition. Drawing on our global research network and policy partnerships, the Alliance focuses on three key areas:
-
Climate Adaptation Finance
-
Nature-Positive Agricultural Solutions
-
Agrobiodiversity for Nutrition
Through side events, high-level dialogues and collaboration with governments and development partners, the Alliance will highlight the role of food systems in achieving both climate and nutrition goals by: integrating dietary diversity into national climate strategies, scaling up nature-positive agricultural practices, advancing school feeding programmes, disseminating climate-resilient crops, cultivating sustainable livestock management and monitoring equitable value chains.
Through our involvement in COP30, the Alliance contributes to the global commitment to transforming food systems for people and the planet, ensuring that solutions for climate action are rooted in biodiversity, equity and nutrition.
