ENHANCING SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE, ENVIRONMENT AND COMMUNITIES THROUGH INCLUSIVE DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

When it comes to digital technologies and innovation, the way we work is at a crucial juncture.

On one hand, the digital revolution has the potential to enhance and improve how we use, sustain and protect our landscapes, leading to better practices in agriculture, nutrition, climate action, and sustainability. On the other, the digital divide still leaves a large portion of people—especially vulnerable individuals, and those living in least developed countries—at the margins of development.

Indeed, digital technologies are revolutionizing agriculture. But how can we ensure we leverage them to their best potential? How can we work with partners and innovators to co-create inclusive solutions that will benefit farmers, processors, input providers, communities, and other food system actors?

With our data-driven work at the nexus of agriculture, environment, and nutrition, the Alliance is determined to make a difference.

How digital technologies can increase inclusion in food systems

  • Technologies like remote sensing and artificial intelligence can provide new types of relevant and timely data: digital systems reduce the cost of collecting, storing, and distributing this data
  • Digital systems also unlock the participation of remote groups in innovative schemes, allowing them to contribute to solutions
  • Developing digital solutions through gender and development lenses can reduce the information asymmetry between the haves and have-nots in the food system

Making digital inclusion in food systems our priority

We are committed to using digital technology to make food systems more inclusive. Our Strategy 2020-25 sets how we build and grow from this.

Since its inception in 2019, the Alliance has been collaborating with partners, stakeholders, and government counterparts, to launch digital concepts, open software tools, renewed data standards, capacity-building opportunities.

With our work on the ground, we are also fostering innovation and designing effective public-private collaborations, to upgrade the capacities of those working between digital and agricultural sectors and to ensure sustainability in digital agriculture

By simultaneously bridging the digital divide and unlocking the use of emerging digital innovations, we are designing a more open, intelligent, affordable pathway to sustainable, climate-resilient agriculture and food security.
