We all felt the effects of the climate crisis firsthand in 2023, the hottest year on record. Conflict and climate change-induced shocks put vulnerable people at greater risk, underscoring the need for transformative food systems that can empower communities and institutions to be resilient: to build their capacity to adapt, and flourish.
Enhancing climate resilience encompasses multiple scales: providing information to smallholder farmers, linking entrepreneurs to climate-smart agriculture and better business models, as well as changing how we breed crops, and influencing policy and decision-making.
A cornerstone of resilient food systems is sustainable use of agrobiodiversity. From trees to seeds, we aim to ensure that diverse plant genetic resources, crop species and varieties, and complex food production systems are supplying tangible benefits to farmers and consumers.
Erosion, deforestation, and more put our ecosystems at risk. By regenerating and restoring soil, forests, and landscapes, we can enhance our lands’ ability to provide valuable ecosystem services and support life.
