Our mission in Brazil

The Alliance works closely with various partners and stakeholders to build a shared vision for sustainable development in Brazil. This effort is exemplified through the development of an eco-efficient landscape and a collaborative approach involving communities and cross-sectoral stakeholders to restore deforested areas. The goal of our work is to better understand the country's environmental, social and economic dynamics, generating strategies that reduce environmental impacts on its area of the Amazon rainforest, improve the quality of life of communities and develop more productive and sustainable land use systems.

Challenges

Covering a large portion of the Amazon basin, Brazil faces significant challenges due to increasing pressure on its ecosystems, especially from deforestation and climate change. These problems not only threaten biodiversity, but also affect the balance between economic development and environmental conservation. Our work in Brazil therefore focuses on implementing innovative scientific solutions that restore deforested land, conserve biodiversity and develop productive and eco-efficient agricultural models in collaboration with strategic partners and local communities.

Thematic Research Areas

In Brazil, we work together with our partners in the following areas:

Food security

We work to increase food security and crop productivity (particularly amongst small-scale producers), through sustainable agricultural practices, crop improvement and agricultural technology.

Climate change

Due to its location in the Amazon rainforest, Brazil plays a crucial role in global climate change action. We promote the restoration of deforested land and the conservation of the Amazon through strategic partnerships that mobilize resources to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Biodiversity loss

We work to preserve biodiversity in Brazil through approaches that promote agrobiodiversity, the use of DNA for species conservation and the implementation of agroecological approaches. We also collaborate with local communities and the private sector on initiatives that protect natural resources and Amazonian ecosystems.

Digital and inclusive technology

We facilitate access to inclusive digital tools that empower smallholder farmers, women and marginalized groups. These technologies promote the adoption of sustainable practices and improve agricultural productivity, leading to equitable and efficient development.
