Lucy Njuguna

Dr. Lucy Njuguna is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, based in Nairobi. She co-leads the Adaptation Insights project and contributes to the Livestock and Climate Initiative.

She holds a PhD from the Public Administration and Policy chair group of Wageningen University & Research, a Master of Science in Environmental Governance from the University of Freiburg, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Conservation and Natural Resource Management from the University of Nairobi.

Her research focuses on the development and application of robust approaches to track progress in climate change adaptation, with a particular emphasis on identifying effective strategies for mainstreaming adaptation tracking. Through her work, she collaborates with diverse stakeholders to promote contextually relevant methodologies for adaptation tracking, aligning tracking frameworks with adaptation priorities and data systems while fostering partnerships that help integrate scientific insights into policy and practice. Dr. Njuguna has authored several publications and actively supports national, regional and global dialogues on adaptation tracking. She serves as a technical expert under the UAE–Belém work programme, where she supports the development of indicators for the Global Goal on Adaptation. She is also a lead author of the 2023 and 2024 edition of the UNEP Adaptation Gap Report.
