Adaptation Insights

Adaptation Insights - Alliance Bioversity International - CIAT

Increasing the availability, quality, and use of data on climate adaptation in Africa to boost investment and accelerate action.

Project Name (full): Adaptation Insights

Start and end date: 2024 - 2026

Geographic area, countries: Africa, global

Funders: The Gates Foundation

Project Description

Inadequate data and methods of tracking progress in climate adaptation is a major challenge. We must establish a compelling evidence base to inform adaptation efforts in agriculture at different scales of action.

Adaptation Insights is a new project led by The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT and supported by The Gates Foundation which will leverage the scientific expertise and data skills of CGIAR to increase the availability, quality, and use of data on climate adaptation in agriculture—particularly in Africa.

Demand is high for tools and methods of tracking climate adaptation for the Global Goal on Adaptation. National policymakers and the private sector also need knowledge and capacity to report progress against Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).

The project will also support countries in international climate negotiations (particularly the UAE-Belém work programme on indicators) through the provision of evidence and new data on adaptation implementation and effectiveness.

Key activities

  • Improving access to data on implemented adaptation actions and evidence of their effectiveness
  • Establishing a network of adaptation trackers to gather and continuously update data on implemented adaptation actions and their effectiveness.
  • Aligning and unifying diverse methodological innovations being used across CGIAR, disseminating rationalized methods to enable their use by CGIAR researchers and partners.
  • Transforming CGIAR monitoring and evaluation culture to enrich the narratives of its impact, fostering more investment in research and innovation in climate resilient agriculture.
