Céline Termote

Dr. Céline Termote is currently the Africa Regional team leader for the food environment and consumer behavior research program at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, she leads a dynamic team of about 25 professionals with diverse backgrounds (agricultural economy, nutrition, food science, ethnobotany, communication etc.) based in 4 different countries (Benin, Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya). She has 2 decades of experience with designing and implementing research for development projects. Her multidisciplinary work bridges research in ethnobotany, agroecology, market linkages, food environments, diet diversity and quality, and food system transformation, integrating community-based participatory, qualitative as well as quantitative evaluation approaches. Dr. Termote is passionate about co-creation approaches empowering communities to collaborate towards inclusive, sustainable and healthy food systems. Before starting a scientific career, Céline served as a development worker in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where she developed her interest in research that is practical, contextualized and adjusted to the needs of the people for lasting impact on their livelihoods. Dr Termote is holder of a PhD from Ghent University in Belgium. Besides a proven track-record of fund-raising, she published numerous scientific publications and co-supervised multiple PhD and MSc students. Additionally, Celine’s work has led to the development of intersectoral policies that promote sustainable agriculture, food security and healthy diets.
