MRV Zero Deforestation
This project aims to establish a standard that ensures sustainability, traceability, and transparency in agricultural supply chains, while promoting practices that reduce deforestation.
Project name: Transforming supply chains for a deforestation-free future: Integration of MRV protocol in Colombia's agri-food sectors.
Start and completion year: 2024-2027
Region and countries: Colombia
Financiers: UK PACT
What is the MRV Protocol?
The project develops and implements a Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system that integrates geospatial information, risk analysis, and independent validation processes to demonstrate that agricultural supply chains are free of deforestation.
This approach strengthens traceability, improves decision-making, and responds to the demands of international markets.
What problems do we address?
The expansion of agricultural activities has been one of the main causes of deforestation. Added to this is the lack of reliable information on the origin of products, which makes it difficult to guarantee their sustainability.
Why is it important?
This project contributes to forest conservation, strengthens the competitiveness of the productive sector, and facilitates access to markets that demand increasingly stringent environmental standards.

Objectives

Geospatial
Create georeferenced databases that enable precise location of production areas and help clarify their relationships with ecosystems.

Risk
We identify and assess deforestation risk in production chains to prevent negative impacts on forests.

Monitoring and Reporting
We implement systems that collect, analyze, and communicate reliable information for decision-making.

Verification
We validate compliance with zero-deforestation commitments through independent processes to ensure credibility.
