The Alliance at CGIAR Science Week

The event will explore how the new program aims to transform food, land, and water systems in response to a rapidly changing climate. Participants will gain insights into how the program is designed to support CGIAR’s partners and beneficiaries in strengthening the resilience of food systems, enhancing smallholder farmers’ adaptive capacity in an inclusive manner, and fostering low-emissions development.

The CGIAR Gender Equality and Inclusion Accelerator (GENDER Accelerator) leads innovative research to advance gender equality, youth opportunities, and social inclusion within CGIAR’s Food, Land, and Water Systems Portfolio.

Building on the successes of the CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform, the GENDER Accelerator will play a vital role in building an enabling external environment for gender equality and inclusion research within food, land, and water systems.

In this event, speakers will highlight opportunities in the new program, gather feedback from partners on how we can work together to address the inequities in food systems and showcase some transformative approaches the CGIAR is taking to close the gender gaps.

Nearly three billion people worldwide cannot afford a healthy diet. Current food systems fail to provide nutritious, affordable, and accessible food, leading to all forms of malnutrition—from undernutrition to obesity. The CGIAR Better Diets and Nutrition Science Program (BDN) is designed to reshape food systems, ensuring that healthy diets are available and desirable for all, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). 
 
This program applies systems thinking to tackle major challenges such as affordability, accessibility, and desirability of sustainable healthy diets (SHD). By collaborating with market actors, policymakers, and communities, the program aims to make nutritious food more available while fostering social equity and environmental sustainability.
