A global network of researchers who develop national pathways that are consistent with global sustainability objectives, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement targets.
Project Name: The Food, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Land-Use and Energy (FABLE) Consortium
Start and end date: 2017-present
Geographic area, countries: Global
Context
The FABLE Consortium is a global network of researchers who develop national pathways that are consistent with global sustainability objectives, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement targets. The FABLE Consortium's work is based on the following principles:
- A focus on long-term sustainability
- A commitment to evidence-based decision-making
- A focus on collaboration and partnership
The FABLE Consortium's work has the potential to make a significant contribution to the achievement of global sustainability goals. By developing national pathways that are consistent with global objectives, the FABLE Consortium can help countries to make informed decisions about how to transition to more sustainable food and land-use systems.
Key activities
The FABLE Consortium's key activities include:
- Developing national pathways for sustainable food and land-use systems
- Engaging with national governments to promote ambitious sustainable policies
- Building capacity in national research organizations to develop and implement sustainable food and land-use policies
- Communicating the findings of the FABLE Consortium's work to a wide range of stakeholders
Partners
The FABLE consortium brings together research institutes from 22 countries, including (Argentina, Ethiopia, Mexico, Sweden, Australia, Finland, Nepal, Turkey, Brazil, Germany, Norway, United Kingdom, Canada, India, Indonesia, Russian Federation, United States, China, Rwanda, South Africa, Colombia and Malaysia).
The consortium is coordinated by the FABLE secretariat, which includes three institutions:
- The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)
- The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA)
- The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT
Funders
The FABLE Consortium is funded by the Norway's International Climate and Forest Initiative - NICFI (Norwegian government).
Budget
The total budget for the FABLE Consortium is $500,000 per year.
