Capacitating P2P2RS Stakeholders for the Climate-smart Village Implementation

This initiative supports the operationalization of climate-smart villages (CSVs) within the P2-P2RS. Led by CILSS in partnership with the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, the project is funded through the African Development Bank (AfDB). It aims to strengthen technical and scientific capacities of national and regional stakeholders on the CSV approach. Activities include conducting regional training sessions, and supporting national focal points in setting up CSVs in nine countries across West Africa.

Partners involved:

  • National P2RS coordination units in nine CILSS member countries
  • CILSS (Comité Permanent Inter-États de Lutte contre la Sécheresse dans le Sahel)
  • Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT, Senegal
  • INSAH (Institut du Sahel)
  • African Development Bank (AfDB/FAD) – funding partner
  • Commission Climat pour la Région du Sahel (CCRS)

Demand-Led Capacity Building Framework for the Bean Corridor Approach Project

The  PABRA Academy is a capacity-building initiative of the Pan-Africa Bean Research Alliance (PABRA) aimed at addressing identified capacity building gaps of partners along the bean value chain. The PABRA Academy Fellowship is sponsored by PABRA, a constituent of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT. Using PABRA's capacity-building framework, which is aligned with the bean corridor approach, the PABRA Academy seeks to identify and address the knowledge and skills gaps initially with national bean researchers and expand to other actors and institutions at the three bean corridor hubs of production, aggregation and consumption, while corresponding with essential activities and processes along the bean value chain in Africa. The Academy intends to achieve these through the PABRA Academy Fellowship, mentorship, and internships to competitively identified beneficiaries. The target beneficiaries of the Fellowship are researchers within the bean program across the 31 countries in Africa where PABRA has a presence.

Partners involved:

  • Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR)
  • Africa Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI)
  • Fifteen African Universities
  • PABRA-affiliated NARS in 31 African countries
  • Universite Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P) - Strategic partner
