Blog Strengthening Capacities for Agroclimatic Information Management: A Key Step Toward Rural Resilience

As part of the Colombia Agroalimentaria Sostenible project, on March 7, the city of Pereira hosted an important workshop on capacity building for agroclimatic information management. This initiative brought together 10 rural youth, 10 representatives of women's organizations, and 16 representatives of local organizations, coming from 26 municipalities across 14 departments in the country.

This workshop marked the beginning of a training process designed to empower rural producers in decision-making based on agroclimatic information. By integrating this knowledge into their agricultural planning, participants will be able to anticipate risks and minimize crop losses, contributing to the sustainability of their territories.

The impact of this training effort is part of a broader strategy that has reached significant milestones. With this workshop, a total of 604 events have been held, engaging 12,500 people and covering 219 municipalities in 22 departments. These numbers reflect the ongoing commitment to providing practical tools and key knowledge to rural communities, promoting their adaptation to climate variability and strengthening their food security.

The success of this workshop in Pereira highlights the importance of creating collaborative learning spaces where young people, women, and local organizations can share experiences and acquire essential skills for agroclimatic risk management. As this training process advances, more and more rural producers are expected to join the initiative and make agroclimatic information a fundamental pillar in decision-making on their farms.

These types of gatherings not only represent learning opportunities but also foster networking among different actors in the agricultural sector. Collaboration and experience-sharing strengthen local adaptation and resilience strategies, building a more sustainable future for agriculture in the country.
