Accelerating Science into Impact A4IP Releases Its 2025 Year in Review

The Accelerate for Impact Platform (A4IP) is pleased to announce the release of its 2025 Year in Review, highlighting a year of significant progress in advancing science commercialization, innovation acceleration, and ecosystem development across Africa, Latin America, and the MENA region.

In a period marked by growing pressure on global research-for-development funding and continued contraction in agritech investment, 2025 represented an important milestone in A4IP’s evolution. Throughout the year, the Platform strengthened its role as the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT’s platform for science valorization, technology commercialization, and innovation ecosystem development, fully aligned with the Alliance’s Research and Innovation Strategy and CGIAR’s Scaling for Impact agenda.

From scientific discovery to scalable solutions

A4IP’s work in 2025 extended across the full innovation continuum. Rather than focusing solely on individual technologies, the Platform invested in the enabling conditions that allow scientific discoveries to generate sustainable impact at scale—bringing together researchers, governments, investors, industry partners, and entrepreneurs to co-design innovation pathways and accelerate science-based solutions.

The Year in Review captures the breadth of this effort:

Science-driven startups and innovations supported

145 +

Alliance innovations advanced through the inaugural RAMP programme

9

Technical training, mentoring, and investor-readiness support delivered

490 + hours

National consultation workshops organized

6

International ecosystem engagements convened

37

Organizations collaborated with A4IP during the year

135 +

These collaborations spanned CGIAR Centers, governments, universities, accelerators, development finance institutions, corporations, investors, and startup ecosystems—demonstrating the importance of partnerships in translating research into real-world impact.

Launching RAMP: A new pathway for entrepreneurial science

One of the year’s most significant achievements was the launch of Research and Market Pathways (RAMP), CGIAR’s first structured programme dedicated to helping scientists transform research outputs into market-ready solutions.

RAMP represents a major step toward supporting entrepreneurial scientists and strengthening the bridge between research excellence and commercial application. By combining mentorship, market validation, and commercialization support, the programme is helping create new pathways for CGIAR innovations to reach farmers, food systems, and communities.

Alongside RAMP, A4IP expanded its portfolio of country innovation initiatives across Africa, Latin America, and the MENA region, strengthened international partnerships, published nine ecosystem and technical reports, and launched new digital tools to improve the visibility and discoverability of CGIAR innovations. These efforts further positioned the Alliance as a trusted partner in designing national agritech ecosystems, strengthening technology transfer, and connecting science with investment opportunities.

Acknowledgment

These accomplishments were made possible through the continued support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), whose strategic investment has enabled A4IP to pilot new models of science commercialization, innovation acceleration, and international partnership building.

A4IP also extends its gratitude to the Alliance’s leadership, scientists, CGIAR Centers, governments, development partners, private-sector collaborators, investors, accelerators, and entrepreneurial communities whose collaboration continues to drive this work forward.

Looking ahead

As A4IP enters the next phase of its journey, the Platform will continue to expand commercialization pathways, deepen strategic partnerships, support entrepreneurial scientists, and develop innovative financing mechanisms that can accelerate the deployment and scaling of CGIAR innovations.

The 2025 Year in Review tells the story of more than a year of activities—it reflects a growing movement to ensure that scientific excellence is not only generated, but successfully translated into solutions that improve livelihoods, strengthen food systems, and build resilience for people and the planet.

The Accelerate for Impact Platform (A4IP) is the venture space that leverages CGIAR’s legacy in research and innovation to co-design, accelerate, and de-risk the development and deployment of science-based technology-driven solutions for sustainable agriculture and climate action. A4IP pioneers entrepreneurial models that bring research products from lab to market, boost demand for CGIAR science, and strengthen its function in the innovation ecosystem.

The initiative plays a catalytic role for entrepreneurial scientists, start-ups, and other strategic partners driving agri-, food-, and climate-tech innovation that will make our agrifood innovations systems healthier, more equitable, and more sustainable, while contributing towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
