Consultation workshop: Strengthening Guinea’s agricultural innovation ecosystem
The AgriTech4Guinea Consultation Workshop: Enhancing Guinea’s agricultural innovation ecosystem is a collaborative forum powered by the Accelerate for Impact Platform (A4IP) of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT in partnership with the Fonds de Développement Industriel et des PME (FODIP) and E4Impact, and funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation through its voluntary contribution to the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT.
The event will take place on June 11th, 2026, from 09:00 to 16:00, at Conakry, Guinea, and from 09:00 to 12:30 for the online segment.
This high-level workshop will bring together a wide range of actors - including policy makers, universities and research institutions, startups and entrepreneurs, agribusinesses and corporate partners, innovation support organizations, investors, farmer cooperatives and associations - to assess the feasibility of agricultural innovation mechanisms and explore how they could be designed to address Guinea's challenges and opportunities, particularly in terms of climate resilience.
Guinea is an agrarian nation where agriculture plays a central role in the economy. The sector contributes 28% of national GDP and employs 53% of the population. The country possesses significant natural resources across its agro-ecological zones, including an estimated 15.5 million hectares of arable land, of which only 25% is currently farmed and just 10% cultivated annually. These conditions support the production of a wide range of agricultural commodities, including rice, cassava, maize, millet, sorghum, palm oil, cocoa and coffee, and various fruits and vegetables.
Despite this potential, Guinea continues to face major challenges in the agricultural sector, including low productivity, limited infrastructure, and the growing impacts of climate change. In response, the Government of Guinea has launched several policies aimed at modernizing and strengthening the sector. The Plan National d’Investissement Agricole de Sécurité Alimentaire et Nutritionnelle (PNIASAN) 2018–2025 serves as the country’s main framework for agricultural investment, food security, nutrition, and productivity enhancement.
In parallel, the national development vision Programme Simandou 2040 positions agriculture and digitalization as complementary drivers of inclusive growth and economic diversification.
Aligning with the Government’s efforts, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT through the Accelerate for Impact Platform and together with partners host the AgriTech4Guinea Consultation Workshop aimed at fostering an enabling environment that attracts and supports agri-tech innovations for Guinea’s agriculture and food sectors by promoting international cooperation, strengthening institutional capacity, mobilizing talent, and enabling the co-creation of solutions between entrepreneurial scientists, researchers, and industry players.
Outcomes from the workshop will shape the design and priority areas of a potential AgriTech4Guinea initiative. The Consultation Workshop sets out to build institutional capacity, mobilize talent, and promote the co-creation of solutions among entrepreneurs, researchers, and industry players. The event will also lay the foundation for establishing strategic partnerships required for project implementation.
