People at the Heart of Food Systems
Three years on, the seeds that we sowed when forming the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT – a fresh and ambitious set of Strategic Objectives to transform people’s lives during a climate crisis – are now bearing fruit.
Land
is the foundation of a healthy food system. As climate-resilient landscapes took center stage in 2022, our work focused on providing farmers with the tools, methods, and information that they need to adapt to changing conditions.
Crops
such as cassava, beans, rice, and bananas are central to the livelihoods and diets of millions of people. To safeguard and use agrobiodiversity, we opened a state-of-the-art genebank and conservation hub: Future Seeds.
Food
is too often, especially in times of crisis, inaccessible to vulnerable communities. Our work unpacks complex food systems, identifying constraints and opportunities in order to bring nourishing food to consumers’ tables.
Markets
must be more accessible and equitable so that smallholder farmers benefit from selling their produce. We provided market insights and bolstered value chains for products from cacao to quinoa.
