William Tinzaara

William Tinzaara, a Ugandan national, holds a PhD degree in Chemical Ecology (Entomology) of Wageningen University, The Netherlands; specializing in pest and disease management. He is currently working as a Scientist with the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, under the thematic area of Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture. He recently supported the implementation and supervision of projects with donor funds from the McKnight Foundation, USAID and World Bank through ASARECA and International Foundation of Sciences (IFS) for sustainable management of banana pests and diseases in East and central Africa. He is currently coordinating the project for improvement of banana production using biotechnological techniques, supported by the NARO, Uganda Government. He supervises Msc and PhD students on the project in addition to supervising staff managing the regional banana germplasm in Mbarara district, Uganda.
He has published widely in both local and international refereed journals. Prior to working the Alliance, he worked as a Research Consultant with International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), and as Research Scientist with the National Agricultural Research Organization, Uganda. He has a wide experience in project initiation, proposal writing, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, supervision of junior staff and report/paper preparation, in addition to working extensively with different regional and international banana stakeholders.
