Jose Gerardo Sanchez-Choy

José Gerardo Sánchez-Choy is the focal point of the Alliance in the Ucayali region, Peru. He currently works with the Multifunctional Landscapes Science Program (MFL SP) and Biodiversity for Resilient Ecosystems in Agricultural Landscapes (B-REAL), and has worked with the Agroecological Initiative, Agroecological Regenerative Cocoa, and Agroecological Transitions projects. He is Senior Research Associate of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT of the CGIAR.

He is a researcher born in Lima, based in the city of Pucallpa, agronomist, with a Master's degree in Agricultural Production from the National Agrarian University La Molina, with over 30 years of professional experience in the Amazon region of Peru in areas related to deforestation-free business models, participatory research with rural families, integrated pest management, ecosystem approaches in health, nutrition, and agroecosystems.

He has worked as a researcher with the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) in the tropical forages program, with the Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon (IIAP) in the biodiversity program. He worked in the regional government of Ucayali as deputy manager in the territorial planning area. With CARE-Peru in the alternative development program in the Aguaytía Valley, as well as an advisor to private agricultural companies. He has maintained a collaborative working relationship with CIAT since 1994. He has received training in Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Paraguay, and the United Kingdom. He has over 30 scientific publications. Currently, José also teaches the Project Formulation course in the agroforestry and aquaculture department at the National Intercultural University of the Amazon (UNIA).
