James Edward Giles

James Giles is a specialist in climate strategy with the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT in Hanoi, Vietnam, where he works in the Climate Action team. He has a background in environmental science and economics.

Over the last six years with the Alliance in Asia, he has conducted research on the evaluation of localized Climate-Smart Agriculture initiatives and their capacity to influence national-level climate policies in the agricultural sector. Through this, he has coordinated the work on Climate-Smart Agriculture across Asia, developing multiple methodologies that make use of participatory approaches to engage in multi-stakeholder dialogues with both farmers and policymakers.

Responding to identified gaps in understanding, his recent work has seen him narrow his research focus to the role of digital climate-advisory services in building the resilience and productivity of vulnerable communities.
