Irma Esperanza Ayes Rivera

Irma Ayes Rivera was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where she studied Environmental Engineering (2001-2005). She has a master's degree in Project Management (2007-2009), a master's degree in Water Resource Management (2010-2012), with a PhD in Hydro-climatology (2016-2020), with a special focus on the hydro-climatology and sedimentology of the Madeira River (Peru, Bolivia and Brazil). Fellow of the World Meteorological Organization (2010) and the Organization of American States (2015). In her professional career, she worked at the Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (2005-2010) supporting the study of the Patuca River ecological flow, Lake Yojoa water balance and licensing studies of substations, transmission and distribution lines. At the National Autonomous University of Honduras (2013-2016), she worked at the Honduran Institute of Earth Sciences (IHCIT) supporting the evaluation of water resources of Honduras and a proposal of socio-economic indicators of climate change, as part of the UNDP National Adaptation Plan. Also at the UNAH, as a professor of Environmental Engineering in the Civil Engineering program and as a consultant tasked with reviewing the curricular plan studies for college technicians in water quality. Since December 2021, she supports the Climate Action research area at the Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT in Honduras, in projects providing climate services, aimed to improve information delivery, translation and capacity building among different stakeholders. Since 2022, she works in AgriLAC Resiliente, a CGIAR initiative. She is a volunteer in the College of Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineers of Honduras and in the OWSD-Honduras chapter. She is passionate about traveling, singing, cooking, eating and until a while ago martial arts (Seido style Karate), a little bit of Kendo and Krav-Maga.
