Dejene K. Mengistu
Dejene K. Mengistu is a Scientist at the Alliance Bioversity International and CIAT, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he manages various projects under the Agrobiodiversity in Production System lever.
His work focuses on plant breeding and genetics, agrobiodiversity for food and agriculture, Natural Resources Development with an emphasis on breeding crops for stress tolerance. Farm diversification to improve their resilience to climate change and improved nutrition is his emphasis. Emerging areas of work include the climate resilience and environmental sustainability of food systems, participatory decision-making and commodities value chain development.
Dejene is a lead author of many articles published in reputable journals. The focus of the papers and manuals includes participatory plant breeding, genetic resource uses and conservation, evolutionary plant breeding, crowdsourcing crop improvement, and TRICOT approaches.
