Connor Haynes
Born in the UK but immigrated to Canada, and now, Cali, Colombia. I've broad experience working to repair degraded natural environments in various ecological systems and geographies. My ultimate goal is to facilitate community and/or Indigenous-led restoration of degraded landscapes in Latin America and use this process for carbon sequestration, amongst a myriad of cobenefits, whilst promoting equitable social justice.
Currently I am assisting the Alliance Bioversity-CIAT with two projects, in alignment with the completion of my Masters in International Forestry at the University of British Columbia. One is the 'EPINER' project, which assesses food environments and how they link to deforestation, conflict and nutrition in the departments of Cauca and Putamayo, thus building on studies and reports already produced by the Alliance. The second project 'GIC-LAC' relates to improving the robustness and transparency of carbon quantification in the AFOLU sectors at the national level in Colombia, assessing gaps in accounting as to recommend methodological improvements for actors in this realm. I will assist with the formulation of various reports and workshop materials, with the intention of increasing transparency in MRV of land-use systems, ultimately enabling resources and efforts to be directed to where they are most needed.
