Blog Mission accomplished! Young people from Cali culminate their internship in CASD full of knowledge and enthusia

For one month, six outstanding students from public schools in Cali had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the exciting world of science thanks to the CASD program, an initiative of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT. These young people, selected for their excellent academic averages, were able to explore diverse areas such as biotechnology, microbiology, and technology, thus complementing their technical high school education.

Through this experience, the students not only acquired theoretical knowledge, but also developed practical and collaborative skills. Adriana Duque, a student from La Merced school, one of the participants, expressed her enthusiasm for what she learned and assured that this internship has inspired her to dedicate herself fully to science. “I learned a lot about teamwork and discovered that science is my true passion,” said Adriana.

These types of initiatives are essential to foster interest in science, engineering and agriculture in the younger generations. By giving young people the opportunity to learn first-hand about the work of researchers and scientists, they are inspired to pursue careers related to these fields and contribute to the country's development.

The CASD program was led by Roosevelt Escobar, Senior Research Associate, who highlighted the importance of this initiative: “The training of young people in science is fundamental for the development of a creative, innovative and competitive society. Initiatives such as “Biotechnology in the Classroom and Bio-Apprentice” are key to awaken students' interest in science and provide them with the necessary tools to face the challenges of the future. This opportunity not only strengthens ties with CASD schools and teachers, but also lays the groundwork for collaborative and continuous learning. These initiatives, which already have more than 20 years of operation, are strategic for us to articulate them to pedagogical processes in the new bet of the Museum of Natural and Cultural History of Colombia, financed by the Royalties fund. This project is led by Parque Explora and 7 partner institutions are participating. We will soon give you more information”.

The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT reaffirm their commitment to education and the training of young talents. Their duty is to work to provide opportunities for students to reach their full potential.
