Bio-Aprendiz

Bio-Aprendiz is dedicated to creating spaces where the educational community can explore biodiversity and accessible biotechnology techniques, and then share this knowledge across public institutions.

Region and countries: The project operates in Latin America, specifically in Palmira, Colombia.

Funders: Currently, Bio-Aprendiz is funded by the General System of Royalties through the Biofilia exhibition.

 

Project objectives

The objectives of Bio-Aprendiz are:

1. Encourage students from public schools to implement biotechnology in their classrooms, create spaces for dialogue, and promote knowledge grounded in science.

2. Introduce practical science and technology processes in schools across Cali and Valle del Cauca.

3. Create spaces for citizen participation.

Main activities

  • Partnership with public institutions through internships for top-performing students, who join ongoing research processes at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT.

  • Teacher training focused on developing pedagogical strategies and setting up accessible laboratory teams, making biotechnology education more practical in diverse learning contexts.

  • Hosting visitors as part of the Biofilia exhibition, which has enriched the Bio-Aprendiz experience and strengthened ties with the educational community through workshops and educational events.
