Stephen Mutuvi

Dr. Stephen Mutuvi has a background in Computer Science and specializes in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of La Rochelle, France, where he focused on event extraction from multilingual news text. His research interest lies in applying cutting-edge AI and Machine Learning techniques to address urgent human challenges such as food security, health, and climate change.

Currently, Dr. Mutuvi serves as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Artemis project, and is based in Arusha, Tanzania. The Artemis project applies AI and imaging technology to extract phenotypic traits for crop breeding. Previously, he worked as a consultant with the Alliance, where he utilized Computer Vision techniques to detect cassava diseases from leaf images.
