Sergio Andres Cruz

Sergio Andres Cruz is a dedicated research associate working within the Common Bean Breeding program at the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT in Palmira. His passion lies in the dynamic field of bioinformatics, where he delves into the analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data, de novo genome assembly, comparative genetics, and the development of genetic markers.

Sergio recently completed his master's degree in plant breeding at the National University of Colombia, where he had the invaluable opportunity to study interspecific populations of Common bean and tepary bean. During his research, he delved into the barriers between these species, performed introgression detection, population structure analysis, and whole-genome association studies to dissect the genetic basis of heat tolerance.
