Ramya Ambikapathi
Ramya holds a doctorate in Human Nutrition with a certificate in Public Health Economics as well as a MS in Global Disease and Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University and has an ecology undergraduate training. She joins us following research positions at Cornell, Purdue and Harvard universities in the United States. Her previous research has focused on evaluating personal and external food environment influences on diets using mixed methods with a strong focus on gender and equity. Research interests include conceptualizing gender in food systems from a multidisciplinary perspective, the impact of informal food environments on nutrition and livelihoods and resilience. She has worked in countries as diverse as Tanzania, Laos, Peru, South Africa and India. Ramya was a drafting member of the recent high-level panel of experts (HLPE Report #19) on "Strengthening urban and peri-urban food systems to achieve food security and nutrition in the context of urbanization and rural transformation”.
