Juan Sebastian Velasquez Ruiz

Juan is a Senior Research Associate in the Multifunctional landscapes team. He is a Biologist, Magister in Geographic Information Technologies and City and Urbanism with emphasis on environmental sustainability and green infrastructures, with more than ten years of expertise in geographic information storage, management and analysis.

Juan's activity within the alliance has focused on the analysis and monitoring of the Land cover / Land use of agricultural areas of Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, specifically on deforestation and forest degradation issues, involving spatial support to achieve voluntary conservation agreements.

He currently supports the ARC (Agroecological Regenerative Cocoa) project, the agroecology initiative, the Mapbiomas Agua project (Guayanas mapping) and the SAA (Sustainable Agriculture Activity) project in Colombia.
