Dacian Ciolos
Dacian Ciolos is a Romanian agroeconomist and former European Commissioner with extensive experience in agricultural policy, food systems and international governance.
He served as European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development (2010–2014), where he led the 2013 reform of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy, placing stronger emphasis on sustainability, rural development, climate considerations and global food security. Previously served as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (2007–2008) in Romania.
He was Prime Minister of Romania (2015–2017), heading a technocratic government focused on institutional reform, increasing partnership with civil society, transparency and the rule of law.
From 2019 to 2024, he was a Member of the European Parliament and served as President of Renew Europe, a proEuropean centrist political group, contributing to debates on EU governance, rule of law, sustainable economy, enlargement and strategic autonomy.
Dacian Ciolos is currently a senior consultant and strategic advisor on agricultural transformation and sustainable food systems, EU enlargement, international partnership in reshaping sustainable food systems. His work bridges policy design, institutional reform and international cooperation, with a strong commitment to science-based decision-making and democratic governance.
