Alejandra Marín

Alejandra Marín Gómez is a Scientist with the Tropical Forages Program at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT. Her research focuses on sustainable livestock systems, ruminant nutrition, tropical forage quality, grazing management, and enteric methane mitigation. She integrates in vitro and in vivo methodologies to evaluate how tropical forages and feeding strategies can improve animal productivity while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

She holds a dual PhD in Animal Sciences and Agricultural Sciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, and the National University of Colombia. Her experience spans research, teaching, climate-smart livestock development, silvopastoral systems, and sustainability assessment, as well as collaboration with farmers, governments, international organizations, and the private sector.

She currently co-leads the Discovery component of the Low-Methane Forages project, working with ILRI and ICARDA to identify and validate forage options that can reduce enteric methane emissions while maintaining or enhancing animal productivity in tropical livestock systems.
