Alejandra Gil-Ordóñez

Alejandra Gil-Ordóñez is a Research Associate in the Virology and Crop Protection team of the Cassava Program. Her research focuses on the molecular and genomic characterization of pathogens, with particular interests in population genetics, microbiology, ecology, and pathogen evolution. She has experience in biotechnology, Illumina and Nanopore sequencing, and bioinformatics processing of first-, second-, and third-generation microbial sequences, with applications in pathogen diagnosis, genomic surveillance, and molecular characterization. She holds a BSc and an MSc in Biology and is currently enrolled in the PhD program in Biology at Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia), since 2025.
