Alberto Cenci

Alberto Cenci, an Italian national, joined Bioversity International, now the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, (Montpellier) in 2012, holding the position of an associate scientist.
Specialist in comparative genomics, his main focus is the genomic characterization of banana germplasm conserved in the Bioversity International Musa Germplasm Transit Centre (ITC) genebank in Belgium. In addition, he studied some large gene families to develop database tools that facilitate the transfer of knowledge from model species to crops, especially those cultivated in tropical regions.
Prior to joining Bioversity International, he worked at Research and Development Institute (IRD) on coffee genomics, at National Research Institute for Agriculture (INRA) and at the Bari University on wheat genetics and genomics.
