EXPO Milano 2015 - Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life

EXPO Milano 2015: Paving the way towards a food secure future

Bioversity International will be participating in 15 events at EXPO Milano, and organizing its own women's empowerment event in September.

From May 1st to October 31st, 2015, Milan will host the first universal exhibition entirely on food and nutrition, promoted by the United Nations, the European Union and the Italian Government.

EXPO Milano 2015 is expected to attract more than 140 countries and welcome over 20 million visitors who will learn about the latest practices and technologies to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, in a sustainable way. There will be thousands of scientific, cultural and recreational events taking place in greater Milan over the next 6 months.

Agricultural biodiversity is at the core of EXPO, as it can provide options to end hunger and poverty through climate change adaptation, reducing crop damage from pests and diseases, helping farmers manage risks, and helping to nourish people and sustain the planet. Bioversity International is participating in 15 EXPO events to raise policymakers’ and public awareness on why safeguarding and using agricultural biodiversity matters and will also engage with the private sector and other scientific institutions.

The first events will take place on 5-6 May respectively at TUTTOFOOD Fair, Rho, and Cascina Triulza, EXPO site, and will focus on healthy, nutrient-rich diets based on the regular consumption of diverse, local food.

Special attention will be given to the ongoing discussion on the Sustainable Development Goals and the Post-2015 development agenda, in the session taking place at Palazzo Castiglioni on May 15.

Don’t miss our own event on agricultural biodiversity and women’s empowerment on September 17. It will be a unique opportunity to listen to United Nations representatives, international research centres, NGOs and custodian farmers share experiences about the challenges and opportunities for women engaged in the agricultural sector.
