Cali, August 5, 2024. In the framework of COP16, Colombia BioConecta, a digital platform composed of 20 institutions, was born to highlight the work and topics of conservation and study of biodiversity led by academic, scientific, and environmental entities of Valle del Cauca.
This digital platform is made up of the Universidad Nacional, Universidad del Valle, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Universidad Autónoma, Universidad de San Buenaventura, Universidad Libre, Universidad Santiago de Cali, and Universidad Icesi, as well as the Network of Universities for Innovation in Valle del Cauca (RUPIV, by its initials in Spanish). Other organizations involved include the research centers Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, Cenicaña, Agrosavia, the Humboldt Institute, Invemar, and Corporación Biotec, as well as National Natural Parks of Colombia, Parque Explora, Cali Zoo, Cali Botanical Garden, and the Corporación Autónoma Regional del Valle. The platform aims to foster new relationships, strategic alliances, and funding opportunities for sustainable projects that these institutions have been developing to contribute to global efforts in biodiversity conservation.
"Our country, one of the most megadiverse in the world, today offers unparalleled opportunities for collaboration in biodiversity research. Colombia BioConecta will make it possible to highlight the partner institutions, the topics of conservation and study of biodiversity, their success stories, their awards, and their strategic alliances to find opportunities that align with the interests of international cooperation agencies that want to fund initiatives and research to contribute to the solution of major global challenges," said Joe Tohme, General Director of CIAT.
The platform will feature contact forms so that individuals, companies, organizations, or donors interested can get in touch with Colombian institutions and develop impactful collaborations for master's or doctoral theses, sabbaticals, or co-creation of joint research projects.
