Bioversity International researchers to present at Forests Asia Summit
Sharing knowledge on how South-east Asia can accelerate the shift toward a green economy by better managing its forests and landscapes will be the focus of Forests Asia Summit, taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia from 5-6 May 2014.
As agriculture in South-east Asia expands, the world's largest tropical forest and the ecosystem services that they provide are increasingly under threat.
Sharing knowledge on how South-east Asia can accelerate the shift toward a green economy by better managing its forests and landscapes will be the focus of Forests Asia Summit. Forests Asia is set to take place on 5-6 May 2014 in Jakarta, Indonesia and is organized by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and co-hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry.
On 5 May at 19:00 (Indonesia time), researchers from Bioversity International and colleagues from the Forestry Department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) will speak at a co-organized side-event entitled Implementing FAO’s Global Plan of Action for the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Development of Forest Genetic Resources in Asia. Participants will be informed of the first ever State of the World's Forest Genetic Resources Report and the associated Global Plan of Action, which, if implemented fully, will greatly improve the outlook for forest sustainability and their valuable tree genetic resources.
120 speakers, 52 partner organizations, and 1,800 participants have registered, making Forests Asia one of the biggest Asian summits of the past years.
