Net-Zero Development
Upscaling food and land systems transformation for reduced greenhouse gas emissions
Why it matters
Net-zero agricultural development are crucial for combating climate change, ensuring food security, conserving resources, promoting public health, enhancing resilience, and safeguarding biodiversity. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable agricultural practices, we can mitigate the impacts of climate change while protecting the environment, promoting healthier diets, and effectively addressing interconnected global crises. Transitioning to these systems is essential for building a more sustainable and resilient food system for the future.
Our work in advancing net-zero development
We use data to understand drivers of food and land emissions as well as to identify synergies between climate change mitigation and other sustainable development goals.
We estimate greenhouse gas emissions at different levels of the food system, work with partners to collect data on emissions factors and activities, and evaluate technologies with mitigation potential.
We compare emissions under 'business as usual' versus different change scenarios, and study land use change through tools such as Terra-i.
Our net-zero development team creates tools to generate information on carbon balances, and identify ways to lower the environmental impact of food systems.
