Together we transform: sustainable campus
The current challenges we face due to the effects of climate change worldwide are crucial calls to action. As organizations, we must take responsibility for the impacts we generate on the planet, working together towards a sustainable future. Our sustainability strategy represents our commitment to the environment, taking concrete measures to minimize environmental impact, promote social equity, and contribute to the well-being of communities.
The sustainability strategy consists of aligning the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the creation of organizational value through the integration of all areas of the CIAT campus to work together in each component of action. The aim is to achieve positive impacts on the improvement, optimization, use and performance of natural, human, and economic resources under good governance.

Environment
To ensure the mitigation of negative environmental impacts through the improvement and optimization of processes involving the use of natural resources.
Social
To ensure optimal conditions of equality, inclusion, equity, and respect for human rights. To educate and raise awareness among all staff on campus sustainability to foster collaborative leadership that contributes to the fulfillment of the Alliance's objectives.
Governance
To ensure transparency in actions and effectively communicate goals, achievements, and challenges, promoting engagement and dialogue with all stakeholders.

Our areas of focus
Zero emissions
This line focuses on calculating the Alliance's carbon footprint to determine the environmental impact generated by each of its activities, following the criteria of ISO 14064 and GHG Protocol standards. The calculation lays the groundwork for designing mitigation and compensation strategies, as part of the organization's environmental commitment, through the diagnosis, analysis, improvement, and optimization of processes that generate greater impact.
Biodiversity
This line seeks the conservation and protection of biodiversity within the Alliance, through the design of ecological restoration strategies to preserve natural resources, compensate and reduce the impact generated by the use of ecosystem services provided by nature for all operational, administrative, and research activities, as well as the improvement of agricultural practices and environmental education.
Circular economy
The purpose of this line is to develop a circular economy model that prevents negative impacts on the environment due to inadequate management of solid waste, water management, and supply chain management, based on the design of suitable improvement and optimization strategies.
Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan 2024
Infrastructure
The objective of this line is to achieve energy efficiency by improving energy management, that is, optimizing the lighting system, reducing energy consumption, automating air conditioners and other equipment, and increasing renewable energy capacity. Additionally, it involves seeking the structural conditioning of facilities that meet sustainability parameters.
Wellness
This line aims to lead the Alliance to be an inclusive and equitable organization in relation to human well-being the Alliance provides to personnel, integrating educational matters, a healthy environment, and the provision of benefits.
Governance
The purpose of the Governance line is to coherently steer the organization toward a sustainable transition, reflecting a highly transparent, fair, and equitable commitment.
