Un modelo de generacion y transferencia de tecnologia y sus resultados en el Salvador

A participatory model designed in El Salvador for technology generation and transfer is described. Its main components are the farmer, on-farm research, extension services, and support systems such as technical assistance, credit, and marketing. With the implementation of this model in 1986, the main problems identified in beans were BCMV incidence, bacteriosis, and a strong bean pod weevil attack in traditional var. Yield trials were established using 6 var. including that of the farmer; var. Centa Izalco was found superior to the others. The preliminary results obtained with this model include an approach to farmers so they know about these technologies and feedback from on-farm research in bean problems. (CIAT)
