The Alliance at the Second Africa Climate Summit 2025
The Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS-2), convened by the African Union and the Government of Ethiopia, serves as a milestone gathering aimed at positioning Africa at the forefront of global climate action. Scheduled for September 8 - 10, 2025, with preparatory events from September 5 - 7, the summit builds on the legacy of its predecessor held in Nairobi in 2023.
It brings together African heads of state, development partners, private sector actors, civil society, researchers, youth, and climate champions to negotiate scalable, solution-oriented climate responses.
“At ACS-2, climate leaders will champion new global financing systems, and accelerate climate adaptation, mitigation, and green growth. The summit also seeks to empower communities, especially youth and indigenous groups - while fostering fair partnerships and multilateral cooperation.”

Enhancing pastoralist adaptation to climate change through cross-border collaboration for orderly mobility, Transboundary Animal Disease management and rangeland restoration in the Greater Horn of Africa
Pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in the Greater Horn of Africa face intensifying climate risks like the rising temperatures, prolonged droughts, floods, and shifting rainfall patterns that threaten rangelands, livestock health, and livelihoods. This side event will explore cross-border collaboration as a pathway to strengthen adaptation, focusing on orderly pastoral mobility, Transboundary Animal Disease management, and sustainable rangeland restoration. Through expert dialogue and regional perspectives, the event will highlight innovative early warning systems, anticipatory action, and coordinated policies to safeguard pastoral systems and build resilience across the IGAD region.

High level panel - Ethiopia’s Yelemat Tirufat Initiative: Accelerating Food Security and Climate-Smart Agribusiness Growth
Ethiopia’s Yelemat Tirufat Initiative is a flagship four-year program designed to boost dairy, poultry, honey, and fisheries production while advancing food security, job creation, and climate-smart agribusiness growth. This side event will showcase the initiative’s ambitious targets and innovations in genetics, feed, and disease control, as well as institutional frameworks driving its delivery. By fostering dialogue among policymakers, researchers, private sector actors, and development partners, the session will highlight pathways for scaling up sustainable livestock and fisheries transformation in line with Ethiopia’s Agenda 2063.

This side event will spotlight Conservation Agriculture (CA), which is a proven approach built on minimal soil disturbance, permanent soil cover, and crop diversification that is enhancing productivity, soil health, and resilience across diverse Ethiopian farming systems. Drawing on lessons from the Hailemariam & Roman Foundation, MakoBu Enterprises, and partners, the event will showcase successes, discuss financing and policy priorities, and explore pathways to scale CA nationally and across Africa as a cornerstone of sustainable agricultural transformation.
