GIC-LAC Technical Workshop in Colombia

Jornada técnica GIC-LAC en Colombia

Development of the Improvement Plan for the GHG Inventory in Agriculture and Land Use

In February 2026, the team from the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology, and Environmental Studies (IDEAM) and the GIC-LAC project held a workshop in Cali with the aim of advancing the development of the Improvement Plan for the national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory in the sectors of Agriculture and Land Use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry (LULUCF).

This workshop is part of Phase III of the GIC-LAC project and directly contributes to the preparation of Colombia’s upcoming Biennial Transparency Report (BTR2).

How the workshop unfolded

During the session, a joint technical analysis was conducted to review recommendations from various sources (Biennial Transparency Report, previous evaluations), identify weaknesses in the inventory, and consolidate improvement measures. As a result, an initial draft of the Improvement Plan was developed for the Agriculture and Land Use (LULUCF) sectors, making it possible to prioritize actions based on relevance, technical and institutional feasibility, and data availability.

GIC-LAC is funded through the New Zealand Government's Climate Smart Agriculture Initiative as part of its contribution to the Global Research Alliance on Greenhouse Gases in Agriculture (GRA), and CGIAR through Climate Action and Scaling for Impact Science Programs.
