Cassava drying
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/69560
Abstract
Cassava roots deteriorate rapidly after harvesting and must be chipped and dried to less than 14% moisture content for storage. Drying can be done on the farm, on either concrete floors or inclined mesh trays. Optimum loading rate on concrete is 5-7 kg/m2 and 10-16 kg/m2 on trays, depending on wind speed. Drying time depends on climatic conditions and chip loading rate. With an av day-time temp of less…

Abstract
The whitefly Aleurotrachelus socialis Bondar (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) is one of the most important pests in cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) crops in the Neotropics. In Colombia, this is the major pest to the crop in the departments of Cauca, Valle del Cauca and Tolima, causing yield losses in experimental…

Primary diversification of Phaseolus in the Americas: Three centres?
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)

Abstract
The origin of 5 Phaseolus species cultivated in America (P. vulgaris, P. lunatus, P. coccineus, P. acutifolius, and P. polyanthus) is discussed within the context of a broader theory of the origin of this genus, for which 3 centers of origin may be defined: Mesoamerica, the northern and southern Andean regions. Most of their considerations have an…

Cassava Breeding Trials - Edaphoclimatic Zone 1: Lowland Tropics; Long drought; Low to Medium Precipitation
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/77639
Abstract
Cassava germplasm development at CIAT is centered on the development of improved gene pools for specific edapho-climatic zones with importance for cassava production. The most relevant ecosystems are the semi-and and sub-humid tropics, for which the majority of efforts are devoted. The main selection activity is conducted in sites selected to represent the conditions of the target…
