Paola Andrea Mosquera

Paola Andrea Mosquera is the lead rice breeder at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT and serves as the technical lead for the Hybrid Rice Consortium for Latin America (HIAAL). She earned her Ph.D. in crop breeding and genetics from Louisiana State University (United States). She has experience on genetic transformation, trait introgression, in applied plant breeding, with especial focus on optimization of the breeding process and developing hybrid rice and varieties. Her goal is to advance global rice breeding initiatives, particularly by creating climate-resilient varieties that are highly productive, nutritious, and disease-resistant, suitable for tropical and temperate environments.
Her team places a strong emphasis on utilizing the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT’s germplasm adaptation for no-till farming systems and expanding its global adoption. This strategy aims to promote efficient and sustainable agricultural practices while emphasizing environmental sustainability and resilience to climate change.
