Mordecai Mkiza

Mordecai Mkiza is an agricultural researcher specializing in soil and water, crop modelling, climate-smart agriculture, and decision-support tools for sustainable farming. He has experience working with the DSSAT modelling with a focus on soil-water dynamics, crop rotations, and spatial simulations for maize and soybean systems. His research integrates data-driven insights with practical applications to support farmers, policymakers, and development partners in improving productivity while minimizing environmental impacts.

Beyond research, Mordecai is passionate about knowledge-sharing and capacity building among early-career scientists, serving as a convenor for early-career researchers in Africa. He brings a strong commitment to creating a supportive platform where young scientists can grow, not only in their research careers but also in building balance, resilience, and purpose in life. He believes in nurturing a community that bridges science, collaboration, and personal development for the next generation of leaders in agricultural research.

Outside of work, he is an avid fitness enthusiast, cyclist, and runner, who enjoys exploring Kenya's natural landscapes through hiking and outdoor adventures
