Mercy Mutua
I joined CIAT, now the Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT, in July 2015 as a Senior Research Associate working under the Markets theme of the Pan Africa Bean Research Alliance. Over the years I have supported the collection, management and analysis of large survey datasets in many projects within PABRA. These include baseline and impact studies covering themes in breeding, seed systems, production and productivity, markets, nutrition and gender; funded by SDC, GAC, ACIAR, USAID among others. I have worked in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi, DRC, and Burundi.
My passion and expertise are in improving efficiency in the research process through digitization of data collection and transmission, and automation of data cleaning and analysis. As such I am an expert in the use of ODK suite of tools (SurveyCTO, KOBO, ONA), CSPRO, STATA, and SPSS. I also have an interest in digital agriculture through which I support the smoothening of multistakeholder platform operations along agricultural value chains. Through this, various players such as breeders, seed suppliers, farmers, off-takers, processors, and support service providers such as financial institutions are brought together to transact via a digital application.
My future interests are in data science, and monitoring and evaluation of agricultural programmes.
