Langat Kipkorir
Langat Kipkorir is a research associate specialising in sustainable food systems, agroecology, and asset-based community development at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT. His core research interests lie in participatory action research, market systems, livelihood analysis, and smallholder empowerment.
Langat’s research-in-development work currently focuses mostly on (1) coordinating multi-stakeholder engagement across landscapes, (2) co-designing and testing agroecological innovation bundles with farmer research networks, (3) integrating agroecology into school systems through multifunctional school networks, and (4) establishing participatory guarantee systems for organic certification.
Langat is currently involved in the Lower Eastern Integrated Landscape (LEILA) project linking Kiambu, Machakos, Makueni, and Kajiado counties, where he leads a Farmer Research Network of over 1,000 farmers and coordinates a 37-school Multifunctional Schools Network.
He also serves as the Kenya Focal Point for Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Impact Assessment (MELIA). Before his current position at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, Langat worked at icipe (International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology) as a research officer on vegetable-integrated push-pull technology from a One Health perspective and at CIFOR-ICRAF, where he led ABCD-focused research-in-development activities in the Regreening Africa Project.
Langat specialize on MSc in Agricultural Economics and Resource Management from the University of Kabianga and a BSc in Agricultural Education and Extension from the University of Nairobi. He has also trained at Coady International Institute (Canada), University of Pretoria (South Africa), and WISE (Ethiopia).
