Juan Miguel Bueno Mondragón
Juan Miguel Bueno is an Agronomical Engineer, graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Palmira campus. He holds a specialization in Entomology and a master’s degree in Biology from the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia.
For more than 30 years, his professional work focuses on the study of varietal resistance to both biotic and abiotic factors. At the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, he manages entomology research fields, leading studies on empoasca, thrips, whiteflies, and stored grain pests. Through field evaluations and molecular identification techniques, he identifies resistant germplasm and selects lines as sources of resistance to these and other pests. His research also includes phenology assessments, spatial distribution analyses, sampling methodologies, and the establishment of economic thresholds. In addition, he conducts evaluations of plant resistance to abiotic stressors such as heat.
Juan Miguel has extensive experience in farmer field schools and in developing crop management strategies, with an emphasis on effective technology transfer and the dissemination of project findings to agricultural communities. He also manages bean crops using clean and environmentally sustainable practices, covering all stages from planting to harvesting and seed conservation. Furthermore, he applies statistical analyses of experimental data using SAS software.
