Jenny J. Gallo

Jenny Gallo is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, where she leads the application of advanced omics technologies, including proteomics and metabolomics, to understand the nutritional quality and molecular diversity of foods and crops. Her work focuses on developing multi-omics and bioinformatics approaches that generate high-quality, standardized datasets to strengthen evidence for nutrition and health research.
She holds a Master's degree in Biology from Universidad del Valle and a Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Sciences from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali. With extensive experience in analyzing and integrating complex biological datasets, Jenny specializes in workflow development for data curation, ontology alignment, and multi-omics integration, skills that are central to generating harmonized food composition data.
At the Alliance, Jenny plays a key role in leading international efforts such as the Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI), where she supports the creation of interoperable datasets and analytical frameworks that enable deeper understanding of world edible biodiversity. She collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across regions, providing computational expertise to projects aimed at improving food system resilience, enhancing nutritional insights, and informing science-based decision-making.
Her work bridges biological discovery with research-for-development, advancing the Alliance's mission to transform food systems through innovation and high-quality data.
