Fredy Monserrate

Fredy is an agronomist and soil health expert with interdisciplinary experience in research-for-development initiatives focused on sustainable and regenerative agriculture. His work integrates soil fertility, integrated nutrient management, agrohydrology, GIS, and data-driven approaches to support evidence-based decision-making in agricultural systems. He has extensive experience co-designing decision support systems (DSS) for soil and water management, linking scientific research with practical solutions for farmers, institutions, and development programs.

His professional experience spans multiple scales, from plot-level crop nutrition and bean breeding to orchard management in avocado systems and regenerative production strategies for coffee and edible legumes such as common beans and peas. At the farm and watershed scales, he has worked on erosion control, agrohydrological processes, and best management practices for soil and water conservation. At broader landscape scales, his work focuses on watershed planning, regenerative agriculture, and the integration of spatial analysis and agronomic data to improve resilience, productivity, and sustainability across interconnected agricultural landscapes, creating a continuous feedback loop between field management, ecosystem services, and landscape-level decision-making.
