Bernardo Caldas de Oliveira

Bernardo Caldas is a research team leader at the Alliance Bioversity International and CIAT, based in Brasília, Brazil. He has extensive experience in sustainability, focusing on multidisciplinary approaches across different parts of South America, with a strong emphasis on biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and freshwater ecosystems. Throughout his career, he has worked on a wide range of topics, including natural resource management, biodiversity benefit-sharing, water resources, and impact monitoring and evaluation. He currently leads an initiative within the CAL-PSE program, developing and applying monitoring, reporting, and verification approaches for impact investments. Bernardo holds a degree in Environmental Engineering from the Catholic University of Brasília and a master’s in Environmental Sciences from the Federal University of Goiás. Before joining CIAT in 2020, he worked for over 10 years at WWF Brazil, working on projects across the Amazon, Cerrado, and Pantanal biomes, including various international initiatives.
