Alan Freeman

Alan Freeman spent nearly four decades at The Jerusalem Foundation, Jerusalem’s leading civil society organisation, where he played a central role in raising close to $1.8 billion to support more than 4,000 projects across education, culture, social welfare, environmental development, and shared society. He previously served as Director of Overseas Coordination and later Vice President, working closely with municipal leadership and global philanthropic partners.

In parallel to his work at the Foundation, Freeman helped support MATI Jerusalem—the city’s business development agency—which provides training, mentorship, and micro-enterprise support for emerging entrepreneurs, including dedicated programmes for both Palestinian and Jewish women seeking to build sustainable livelihoods.

Educated at SOAS, University of London, Freeman has served on the boards of numerous cultural and educational organisations and has collaborated internationally with political leaders, philanthropists, academics, and cultural figures. He is currently Chairman of Towards the Horizon, an Israeli non-profit supporting young adults, and lives on a kibbutz while continuing his writing and social-impact work.
