The understudied potential of producer organizations as a collective action mechanism for equitable global food governance and food systems transformation - A literature review
Producer organizations (POs) are inherently part of food systems, and their role has been conspicuous and well-documented mostly in the Global North. In developing economies, the role of POs in food systems is less understood, despite their potential as powerful instruments for achieving food system transformation. In this context, we set out to explore the extent to which the available literature has studied the participation and role of POs in global food governance (GFG) and food systems transformation. The review presents insights related to the existing knowledge and gaps regarding the role of POs in GFG and food systems transformation, aimed at orienting future research.
